If you plan to apply for a commercial driver’s license in Tennessee, you must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination. At ExacCare in Crossville and Kingston, Tennessee, the experienced team of providers offers TDOT physicals to make it convenient for you to complete your applications. To learn more about the TDOT physical exam process, call the office directly. ExacCare also accepts walk-in TDOT physicals.
A TDOT physical is an examination to confirm you’re healthy enough to qualify for a commercial driver’s license. Once you pass your initial examination, you need to have a follow-up physical every two years, unless you have a chronic health condition that needs more frequent monitoring.
Additionally, your ExacCare provider checks your pulse, listens to your lungs and breathing, examines your eyes, ears, nose, and throat, and manually checks your internal organs for signs of lumps or other abnormalities.
As part of your TDOT physical, you also discuss your medical history and family history with your ExacCare provider to determine if additional health screenings are necessary.
To pass your physical examination, your ExacCare provider checks various areas of your health, including:
If you have any chronic condition, such as cardiovascular disease, you also need to undergo a stress test so the provider can determine if you’re healthy enough to operate a commercial vehicle safely.
Your ExacCare provider fills out the required medical certificate at the time of your visit if you pass your physical examination.
The medical certificate remains valid for 15 days after your provider completes the information. If you fail to turn in your paperwork to TDOT within that time period, you need to have a new medical examination and receive a new certificate.
